For my Life Lessons assignment, I chose to interview my grandma. I interviewed her because she has always been there for me and impacted my life. The questions I asked her made me understand her a lot more and feel closer to her. With this interview, she has taught me a lot of lessons. She taught me to live my life to the fullest when you're young. She taught me to respect and honor my family and friends. And the last thing she taught me is that forgiveness is important in life.

Interviewee: Mary Lou Gill
Interviewer: Emma Albericci Date of Interview: 8/1/2022 List of Acronyms: MG= Mary Lou Gill Q= Question Q: What was your earliest memory from your childhood? MG: My first memory was when I lived in my first house in North Carolina. I was in my front yard sitting on the grass and my mother called me inside for supper. I remember the supper being a chicken pot pie. It seems like something you'd forget easily, but for some reason that's all I can remember from when I was a toodler. Q: What was the best advice you’ve received, and who was it from? MG: When I was going through my first heartbreak when I was either 18 or 19, my friend told me to take time for myself. She said taking time for myself can help me focus on how to move on and think about the rest of my life. Q: Who was your role model growing up? What made them so important to you? MG: Obviously my parents meant the world to me, but my aunt was the main person I looked up to. She was my mom’s younger sister and we would spend so much time together. If I was having a bad day, she would always cheer me up and tell me stories about her life. Spending time with her made me realize I wanted to be like her and cherish her. Q: What were you doing at my age? MG: When I was 15, it was the mid-60s. Many trends were changing, and like any other teen, I was trying to keep up with them. I was a free-spirit at your age. So, I was going out with my friends at the time and scaring my parents almost every day. I was an okay student and participated in many clubs. I was listening to the Beatles, the Beach Boys, and Elvis of course. Q: Is there anything you regretted in your younger years? MG: Not that I can think of. I always thought to myself to never regret anything and live my life how I want. I think in my older years I regret more. Such as job choices, family styles, and lifestyle now. Q: Is there anybody you have yet to forgive or choose not to allow forgiveness? MG: I think forgiveness is one of the most important aspects in life. I think everyone deserves a chance at forgiveness whether you allow it or not. I wished I could’ve forgiven my parents for everything I’ve done one more time before they passed. Q: How do you want to be remembered once you pass away? MG: I simply want to be remembered as a good person with a kind heart. I would want my family to remember how much I love them and appreciate all they have done for me. |
