“Do I wither up and disappear, or do I make the best of my time left?”- pg.10. This quote is thought in Morrie’s head. He thinks this when he is given his diagnosis of ALS. This is a moving point for Morrie as he has to choose how to live the rest of his life.
“The truth is . . . once you learn how to die, you learn how to live.”- pg.82. Morrie speaks this quote. He says this to Mitch on the fourth Tuesday. This quote is a short synopsis of Morrie's outlook on the brink of death. “Be compassionate. And take responsibility for each other. If we only learned those lessons, this world would be a better place.”- pg.163. Morrie teaches the lesson of compassion to Mitch when he says this quote. He is saying that we should look out for each other and help everyone to the best of our abilities. Morrie believes that compassion would make the world a better place. “Forgive yourself before you die. Then forgive others.”- pg.166. This quote that Morrie says that we should let go of things we regret. When we forgive ourselves, it helps us heal and let us get away from our negative emotions. Once we do this, we are able to forgive others and bring some peace with the person and go on in life. “Death ends life, not a relationship.”- pg.174. Morrie says this quote to Mitch on their second-to-last visit. Morrie explains that your relationship with that person lives on if someone dies. The memories that you have with that person, will have on in your head and your heart.
